The water park in Granada is where you can thrill with excitement
or just relax and enjoy...
The water park in Granada opened for season 2009 last week, although an earlier visit I had there is burned in my memory forever.
Now, don't get me wrong, I've been to lots of other water parks, but this particular water park of Granada is the one where I finally overcame my fear of water. My grandson, Jake, helped me do it and it all happened on the death tube.
But there is more to the Aquaola Water Park (the water park with the waves) than just enjoying water.
Built on a hillside on the eastern outskirts of Granada, Aquaola has stunning views and lots of attractions. Here they are in alphabetical order.....
Baths of Venus jacuzzi pool
This is large pool to relax in. The water is warm and the bubbles jetting out from the bottom of the pool can tickle - depending upon which part of the body they touch.
Fun on the water slides
Euro-bungy These bouncy bungy elastic ropes clip onto a harness to hold you securely. And with some little balance you simply spring up into the air as if you are weightless. With a bit of practice you will be able to do somersaults, twists and impressive pirouettes with no trouble at all..
Pirate Galleon This is a fun activity area for the younger children. It is set within the shallow "Balu's Pool" within sight of the Large Wave Pool. The young ones can explore, climb up, slide down and paddle. Wonderful fun!
Massage Service This is new for 2009. Now you can increase your water park Granada enjoyment by having a relaxing back or body massage in the physiotherapy area.
Swimming pool The large, open air swimming pool has a shallow sloping entry. It is suitable for all ages. Every half hour or so an announcement that the "Waves are about to Begin" brings people from all directions. Part of the fun is that the machine can create six different types of waves and so there is plenty of variety and fun to be had - even if all you are doing is laying down and watching things from one of the sun loungers.
Water slides - Open Topped There are plenty of water slides to give you lots of choice. Some go fast and others slow. Some are shallow and some steep. Others have lots of curves, bumps and tunnels. One of the most popular and relaxing slide rides in the water park Granada is on the Rio Brava, heading on down into Lake Iguazú. Floating lazily over the various obstacles is great fun!

Water slides - Covered The ominous sounding Black Pipe is an exciting ride for two people. Sitting on a double rubber ring, holding on tight and letting the water take you.. You can scream as much as you want to - the sound echoes wonderfully but no-one knows who's doing the screaming. That way your "street cred" stays intact! The Tornado slide spins you in a spiralling motion until you shoot out at the bottom - great fun to ride. And even greater fun to watch!
Zip Wire Get attached to the zip wire that and .... z-i-p ... as quick as a flash you've shot across to the landing pad. Very exciting!
And, as mentioned above, the "death slide" is the special one for me. Don't miss out on it..
Amenities at the Granada Water ParkI've been to the Water Park several times now, and I've been really pleased with all the available amenities...
There is a shop that sells swimming costumes, sun cream, floats and armbands.
Just in case anyone gets hurt or over-exposed to the sun, there is a fully staffed Medical centre.
The showers and changing rooms have facilities for storing belongings and valuables.
The Restaurant, Cafés, Bars and Kiosks sell a wide array of delicious foods - all at reasonable prices. And there are even picnic areas set out for anyone who prefers to take their own food.
