Shopping at the supermarkets in Granada is so easy...

..and it can be cheaper too.

"You get an excellent selection in these supermarkets."

Going to the supermarkets in Granada is something that many holidaymakers and "new" foreign" residents do.

Supermarket shopping is so easy. All we have to do is to walk around the store, choosing what we want and putting it into the trolley. We don't need to know any Spanish. We just look, pick and put.

Of course, many Spaniards and long term residents shop at the Supermarkets in Granada, too. They have such a wide choice of foods, drinks, clothes, tools, white goods and electronic equipment on offer, often at very favourable prices.

But if you are looking for value, surprisingly you will find that some items can be bought in a village shop for less, and so it can pay to shop around. However, village shops tend not to have as wide a range of goods. For instance, even in Padul, many of the butchers (carnicerías) sell delicious pork and chicken, but no beef.

And, of course, some of the smaller villages will maybe only have one small Coviran store, or maybe they will have no shops at all.

We buy locally whenever possible, because we believe that shopping in the village where you live helps keep its economy alive. But we do enjoy going to the supermarkets in Granada for the items we cannot buy in the village.

Of course, in Granada city, there are many, many small shops as well as the large supermarkets. In keeping with most of Spain the small shops are open from Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 13.30 hours and then, after the siesta, from 17.00 to 20.00 hours. Saturdays they are open from 10.00 to 13.30 hours.
Most large supermarkets, on the other hand, are open all day.

Each of these supermarkets in Granada (except Opencor) have their own car parking areas.

As well as the above there are Mercadona, Dia, Coviran and Supersol Granada supermarkets, but these are more typically Spanish and shut for siesta.

We've shopped in each of the above supermarkets, and are favourably impressed with the choice and selection of goods available there.
