Ski in the Sierra Nevada for Sun, Snow and Sea

2009 to 2010 season update

Going to ski in the Sierra Nevada near Granada is the dream of many keen skiers. And this year, 2009, the ski season is expected to start in just a few weeks around mid November. Once started, the season will continue through to April 2010.

Where else can you go for a thrilling ski in the morning and then in the afternoon be swimming or sunning yourself on the beaches of the Costa Tropical?

The facilities to ski in the Sierra Nevada are of an excellent standard with plenty of choice for skiers and snowboarders of all levels and ages. It is easy to arrange to have your own coach, or to join a class if you should want to improve your skills. And there are also excellent amenities for "newbies" so everyone can learn in safety.

Come to ski Sierra Nevada

The Sierra Nevada mountain range reaches up to almost 3,500 metres (11,500 ft) and is situated just outside the city of Granada in Andalucia. This year the skiing season is expected to exceed previous years in the facilities available to visitors, skiers and snowboarders alike. And it all starts in the ski village of Pradollano (also known as Sol y Nieve - "Sun and Snow") which is just 30 kilometres or so from Granada city.

From Pradollano, skiiers and snowboarders are taken to Borreguiles by ski-lift and there you will find good teaching slopes and the beginner's area. The cable-car is to be found in the centre of this village where you will also find a café, large restaurant and ski school.

Children Are Well Catered For

At the top of Borreguiles "magic carpet" conveyer system you can find "Jardin Alpino" and "Dreamland" which cater for up to 40 children of three years old and above. Open from 10.00am until 4.00pm each day you can deposit your children there, and knowing they are well cared for, go off to have an enjoyable ski in the Sierra Nevada.

There is also a crèche at the base of the Al-Andalux Gondola for children aged from 4 months to 8 years old. They are kept amused and entertained by a range of games, crafts and music. Because the crèche can only take up to 25 children pre-booking is recommended. The crèche is open from 9.00am to 5.00pm each day.

Getting There and Coming Back

You can choose to get to the ski village by bus, taxi or car

The five secure car parks should be able to provide adequate room for all who come by car, although many people are pleasantly surprised at the ease of going by bus. The journey takes just 25 minutes and is currently supplied by Autocares Bonal (telephone 958 273 100).

During the ski season the journey to Pradollano ski village goes from Granada Bus Station at 8.00am, 10.00am and 5.00pm each day, with an extra bus at 3.00pm at weekends and fiestas.

To return to Granada, catch the bus in front of the entrance to the large underground car park. Buses leave at 9.00am, 4.00pm and 6.00pm each day with an extra bus at 1.00pm at weekends and fiestas.

Side Note These arrangements are subject to change and so check the bus times beforehand.

Discounted Holiday Packages for the under 25's

There are 13,000 discounted holiday packages being made available from the 3rd November for people up to 25 years old. On offer is a two day programme during the 2009 and 2010 season traversing the hills and valleys of the Sierra Nevada.
