Visit the revolving restaurant in Granada for a whole lot more than just food

"Enjoy the total views without having to move."

Last week we went to the only revolving restaurant in Granada. Its full name is the Granada Restaurant Forum Manzanil.

Actually it is the only revolving restaurant in the whole of Spain! And the whole thing was a great experience.

We sat at our table on the seventh floor of The Forum and the panoramic view of Granada passed us by in a full 360 degrees rotation.

We saw the Vega, the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Science Park and the City itself - all without us having to move even a muscle.

And because all the exterior walls are made of glass it was easy not to miss anything! In fact the whole experience was wonderful. But I do have some slight reservations....

I'd often wondered how these giratorio restaurants work...
Well this one actually has a revolving floor.

There are eight rotary engines which power the floor as it moves around. And it travels so slowly that it takes an hour and a half to make a full revolution. Looking through the windows of the restaurant the movement is hardly perceptible.. But when you look at the edge of the floor and how it moves relative to the wall, the speed of rotation can seem totally different, as this video shows.

A minor drawback I experienced was when I left the table to visit the "men's room". As I left our table, I knew where the table was. But when I came out - the table I had been sitting at was somewhere else....

It was only afterwards that it was pointed out to me that each table is numbered in sequence and so, really, I could have found where I had been sitting very easily..

The six of us had actually gone to the revolving restaurant in Granada for a meal. And to be honest I think the food lacked flavour, and it was a little overpriced for what it was.. But we don't normally judge a restaurant on first visit - maybe they are just having an "off-night". We will have to go again to check things out properly!

For anyone, like us, wanting to go to a restaurant for a special occasion, then it was worth every penny, even if just for the occasion. And if you have a mind to, you could have a main course and drinks for around 20 euros.

Having said that, there are also sofas and seats available for anyone who just wants to go for lunch, a coffee or an aperitif, and who want to enjoy the views at the same time....

And so, don't let the price put you off.

Go along and enjoy the views of Granada while sitting in wonderful comfort... maybe I will see you there, because I will definitely be back!

The revolving restaurant in Granada is situated in the Forum Building near the Science Park and the The Cultural Centre of Caja Granada.

The Granada Blog brings you the truth about eating in places like the revolving restaurant Granada. The Forum Manzanil restaurant is a forerunner of high tech eating, being the first restaurant of its kind in the whole of Spain, but when we went, the quality of food let the whole thing down somewhat.
