Photos from the reclamation yard in Granada.
Fernando, the owner, is in the centre As I looked around I could see..
And then, joy of joys, around the back I found...
I could easily have stayed there all day looking in and around the yard... We explained to the owner, Fernanado, what we were looking for and he took us to one of the large piles of neatly stacked wood. The wood was new and in excellent condition, but we decided to ask for something that would have more character. It was then that Fernando took us to his supply of railway sleepers. We finally managed to find a piece that we wanted... Good condition... Made of bautiful oak... And with a surface which I would describe as "having character". After a bit of haggling I paid the man my 30 euros and backed the car into the yard. With the back seats down we managed to fit the railway sleeper into the car. Job done, Babs went to the nearby café for a well earned coffee and I spent a lttle time looking around the yard, talking to Fernando and taking photographs. I don't know if there is another reclamation yard in Granada. But this is the only one we know of. Maybe you will let me know if you know any different. Fernando of the Derribos y RastroFernando, the owner, came across as a very genuine person. He seems to care about his reclaimed items. He could tell me the history of a lot of the pieces he had for sale. He also has an antique shop near Armilla where he lovingly restores furniture.Fernando told me that, in Spanish, his reclamation yard is known as a "Derribos y Rastro" (which translates into "demolition and flea market"), but this is a term I am unfamilair with. Of course, there are many "rastros" in Granada, one large one being opposite the firewood yard where I buy wood in winter, but rastros tend not to sell many building materials. For anyone who wants to visit this reclamation yard in Granada, it is in the Los Llanoa area, on the Carretera a nacional N-323 between Armilla and Alhendin. It is normally open between 9.00am and 2.00pm each week-day morning. There is a wealth of materials there for anyone looking for something uniquely different for their fireplace, their home or even their garden.... And, yes, our fireplace looks wonderful with its beautiful oak fitted mantelpiece. If you are into recycling and getting a bargain.. Why not Go to this reclamation yard in Granada and.... Look. Enjoy. and Reclaim! Related links
