Second Pictures of Granada marathon session 2010

I love pictures of Granada. In fact I've probably taken two or three thousand of them since I moved here in 2001.

Some are holiday photos taken to remind me of the good times I've had in my favourite city. But I must confess that I also take a lot of pictures in Granada to use on this website too.

And so when I saw the opportunty of spending a day or so taking even more Granada photos I jumped at the chance,

The opportunity arose in the guise of the 2nd Photo Marathon of the City of Granada (II Maratón Fotográfica Ciudad de Granada) organised by the Ideal Newspaper of Granada in conjunction with Granada Town Hall.

The entry fee was 7 euros. The price also included an attractive body warmer complete with an Ayuntamiento de Granada emblem (Granada Town Hall badge) - see photo - and a voucher for a menu del dia or Bocadillo (sandwich) so I wouldn't go hungry on the day of the event itself.

Having first signed up by email, participants also had to register in person on Saturay 24th October, the day of the event. Even though I arrived in good time at Plaza Bib Rambla to register, there were lots of people already there (photo above).

And so I signed in, collected my body warmer, vouchers and instructions of competition and went to one of my favourite cafés at the nearby Hotel Victoria at Puerta Real to study the rules.

After a coffee and a chocolate filled croissant I felt sufficiently fortified to set off on my marathon day of taking pictures of Granada. I had to visit fifteen places within the city area and take photographs in each of them.

I hadn't realised how tiring it would be. No wonder it was called a Marathon!

But I did enjoy it.

I got to know several of the other photographers during the day. They weren't difficult to recognise. After all, they were loaded up with camera equipment and I saw them at each of the same specified parts of Granada that I went to.

These were the places we took pictures Granada. Each place-name links to the uploaded photographs themselves:-

Did I enjoy the day?

Yes, most certainly. The pictures of Granada that I took can be seen under my user name of guitarristabueno

Second Photographic Marathon Event

This, the second Marathon Event for taking photos in Granada was bigger and better than the first, being attended by more participants. The first competition took place on 1st November 2008.

Once completed, each participant uploads their photographs to the Ideal Website, and then an independent photographer and members of the City Council of Granada judge them and decide on the winners. Winning photographs will be exhibitied from November 10th at the Granada Town Hall in the Plaza del Carmen patio.

The first prize is 1,000 euros worth of photographic equipment. Second prize is a portable laptop. And each winner of each of the fifteen categories will also receive a weekend Hotel break.

But, as they say, "The winning is in the doing", and so I already feel I have accomplished everything I wanted to. And I certainly enjoyed the whole occasion. During the day I took 765 photos in all and submitted 60. The camera I used was a digital Canon EOS 400D.

Will I be entering in 2010?

Definitely!

If you are interested in participating in next year's event it will be publicised in the Ideal Newspaper during October 2010.

If you are able, look out for details (you can do it on-line) and enrol. And you will get yourself a day to remember!

Hopefully I will see you there??
