Learn Spanish in Granada. It's a wonderful place to learn the language

The best way to learn Spanish in Granada is to actually come here and talk to the Granadinos.

We've been living here over seven years now, and we still marvel at the life we get to enjoy through having Spanish friends. But, of course, we didn't start out that way.

We had always intended learning spanish before we emigrated here, but we just never got around to it. Finally, as we were driving down to Granada from the ferry, we flipped a cassette tape into the player and started to repeat the phrases. What fun we had, but how difficult it was!

Talking Spanish Granada

You can enjoy a good gossip once you know the language

Things have moved on a lot since those days and now it is much easier for anyone to learn to speak good Spanish.

Spanish is the is the third most spoken language in the world with people in more than twenty countries speaking the language.

But why learn Spanish in Granada? Well, of course anyone can learn Spanish no matter what part of the world they are in, but the rich culture of Granada city brings a certain joy to being able to speak the language.

These are my top four activities for helping you build your language skills successfully once you've mastered the basics.
  • Talking. The more you speak and listen the more you will understand. Just talk Spanish.

  • Watching Spanish television. Watch the soaps or films with English subtitles. Very entertaining and educational.

  • Intercambio. Spend an hour with a Spanish friend who wants to improve his English. Spend half the time speaking Spanish, and the other half speaking English. You both win!

  • Live here. Get immersed in Spanish life. Your language skills will improve no end.

But to really learn Spanish in Granada probably the most effective "stand alone" activity for many people is to..

  • Take lessons.
The price for a course of Spanish can be anything between 100 and 3,000 euros depending upon the number of sessions booked. Just three of the better academies in Granada include Lingua Schools, Don Quijote and Euro Estudios.

The Best Way To Learn Spanish in Granada

But by far the best thing for anyone to do before coming to Granada, is to learn the basics of the language FIRST. That way your brain is tuned in, you are familiar with the sounds of that language, and you have basic grounding in the vocabulary you will need.

One of the best Spanish teaching programmes I have come across is Rocket Spanish by Mauricio Evlampieff.

It is an interactive programme which is guaranteed to help you develop good pronunciation and be able to join in conversations with Spanish speakers from all around the world. The one drawback is that Mauricio is not Spanish (but then, neither am I), but his programme uses the Spanish promoted by the Spanish Royal Spanish Academy (Real Academia EspaƱola).

Rocket Spanish is currently offering a free 6 day mini-course which uses audio tracks, lessons and activities from the full course. That way you can try it, learn some Spanish, and use it without any obligation whatsoever. You can get your free mini-course at Rocket Spanish

And once you have your language skills, perhaps you would like to come learn Spanish in Granada, because then you will be learning from the different perspective of someone who has an excellent grounding in Spanish speaking skills. And that can make all the difference.

What is the biggest challenge you face(d) in learning Spanish, and how did you overcome it?
