Get Better Health In Padul by Getting Good Advice at the Chemists or The Health Centre
Our health in Padul wasn't one of our considerations when we moved here.
Granted, we had decided to emigrate somewhere that had a decent medical service. But Padul? We had just assumed that the provision for health in Padul would be no better or worse than any other village in Andalucia.
How wrong we were. After chatting to our friends here about their health provision and the support for health in the Lecrin valley we´ve come to the conclusion that caring for good health in our village of Padul is excellent and probably better than most other villages.
And, all things being equal, much of the health provision here is available for holidaymakers, visitors and Padulians alike. And, indeed, for anyone who is feeling out of sorts. And this is true for everyone for good health in Granada Province.
The first port of call for anyone who is feeling out of sorts is normally the chemist (farmacia). Spanish pharmacists spend more time training than English pharmacists and so are more highly qualified. In my opinion, you can often receive the same quality of advice from a Spanish chemist as you can from a doctor in England.
This means that if and when anyone is feeling out of sorts, a visit to the farmacia with a description of the symptoms, will bring a knowledgeable choice of medication being made available to them.

There are 3 farmacias in Padul for health, but the one we use most often is the one on the Avenida d´Andalucia where we have Elena, her husband Francisco and Mariam, all of whom speak English, plus Marina who likes to stick to Spanish and is very charming in the way she cares for you and your needs (see photographs above).
Nevertheless, Elena, Francisco or Mariam are usually in attendance and so there is normally no problem in communication at all.
For even better health you can find more information on chemists in Granada and for those out of hours needs, there are 24 hour chemists.
If it is necessary for you to see a doctor (mèdico de cabercera) we are very fortunate in Padul to have our own Health Centre (Centro de Salud) on Calle Real. We have 5 doctors and 4 nurses in attendance most days and consultations are available each weekday from 09.00 hours to 12.30 hours.
And outside these times we even have our own Emergency Consultations (emergencias) available on a 24 hour basis.
Every day the nurses at the health centre offer the regular services which are normally only available in the better equipped Health Centres in England and, of course, in other countries.

Anyone who is a visitor from an EEC country automatically benefits from a reciprocal agreement between the home government and the Spanish government which entitles them to a public health service treatment in Spain.
And don´t forget that you could be required to present your European Health Insurance Card - EHIC - which replaces the old E111 form if ever you need some health care. This moves responsibility for payment from you to the government.
If you are staying at Los Limoneros, and you are not feeling well, we will, of course, give you every assistance possible in obtaining proper medical help for any ailment you may have.
After all, good Health in Padul is an important factor for everyone.
