Here's a great choice of Granada restaurants - including our favourite Wok and
the Patio Andaluz

"These are two highly recommended restaurants."

Go to one of the many Granada restaurants and you will enjoy good food at its best.

When we first moved here, there was a limited choice of restaurant foods available, but now you can eat Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, Argentinian, North African, Indian, Lebanese, Italian. And, of course, McDonalds.

But good food is not the only consideration when deciding where to eat.

You may want to enjoy the wonderful views of the Alhambra and/ or the snow covered Sierras while you eat. Or maybe most important for you at one of the Granada restaurants is the ambiance, or feel of the place. The staff are important, too, of course. They need to be efficient, courteous and friendly. And it goes without saying that the place needs to be clean, and it needs to be good value for money.

All things considered Granada caters very well for even the most discerning diner.

Two very good Granada restaurants we can recommend are the Ruta de la Veleta and the Los Santanderinos but places like these are usually kept for special occasions.

For day to day good eating we wholly recommend two restaurants which are totally different one from the other. Different nationalities, different eating styles, but both excellent value for money with good ambiance and cheerful, helpful staff.

To be honest they won´t suit everyone, but we've been to each restaurant several times and have really enjoyed each meal we have had. These favourite Granada restaurants are The Wok and the Patio Andaluz and they are both open seven days a week.

The Wok

If you like fresh Asian food then you will love The Wok. It has free buffet service and so you get to eat as much as you like. And the staff are friendly, the food is excellent and there is plenty of parking.

The cooked starters are set out in heated dished for you to help yourself. Once you are ready for your main course(s) you select what you want from the meat, fish and/or seafood chilled tables and take your plate to the Wok or Grill Chef who will then cook it to your liking while you wait.

There is plenty of choice and the food is continually being replenished as it gets eaten.

Choose from:-

  • Fresh oysters, Mussels, Prawns, Serano ham, Cheese, Hard boiled eggs, Russian salad, Octopus salad, Lettuce and Broccoli.

  • Sushi.

  • Chinese bread, Chicken drumsticks, Fried battered prawns, Crispy duck, Fried chicken, Spring rolls, Roast leg of pork, Sweet and sour chicken, Beef in oyster sauce.

  • Noodles, Fried rice, Boiled rice, Chips.

  • Chilled tables filled with assorted Seafoods, assorted Meats and Various vegetables for the Wok and for the Grill.

  • Deserts, Lychees, Cake, Ice creams, Grapes, Melon and Pineapple.
During week-days the price is 9 euros 95 cents per person plus drinks, and even though the price increases by a couple of euros in the evenings and at weekends it is still excellent value for money. The staff are helpful and friendly and are there to help you to enjoy your meal.

The Restaurant is easy to find with plenty of local parking spaces, being positioned near the Aki and Toys-R-Us outlets on the Carretera de Motril/ Carretera de Granada and near the roundabout between junctions 131 and 132 of the E-902 Autovia de Sierra Nevada.

Note: There are two other Wok restaurants in Granada. One near Carrefour and the other in Huétor Vega, but we think the Wok described here has the edge in choice of food, ambience and value for money.

Patio Andaluz

The Patio Andaluz is in La Zubia, about a quarter of an hour from the centre of Granada.

This well established, and locally famous, restaurant serves excellent delicious traditional Spanish food in the afternoons. You can choose between a Menu del Dia or eating off the "Carta" (the menu).

The ambience is friendly and busy. Enter through the bar downstairs and then head upstairs to the restaurant.

You give your order and a salad and warmed bread are quickly brought with your drinks and then your selection of dishes are served as required. The tables are set out with paper tablecloths. As diners leave, their table is cleared, and the paper tablecloth is rolled out and cut off to the desired length, which "all adds to the fun".

A different "Menu del Dia" is offered each day.. for instance, in addition to salad and bread, on Thursdays you can choose from:-

  • First course choices include Rice stew, Fried breadcrumbs with fresh anchovies and melon (see photo above), Chicken soup with ham and egg, Tomato and pepper soup and Pasta bolognese.

  • For your second course the menu includes Pork in a tomato based sauce, Fresh Anchovies, Whiting or Liver, all served with seasonal vegetables.

  • For desert you can have Creme caramel, Spanish custard, Rice pudding, ice cream, Fresh fruit or coffee.

Once finished, you pay downstairs at the end of the bar. On weekdays the price is 8 euros and 50 cents plus drinks. At weekends the price is 12 euros.

This restaurant is very popular. The photo was taken at 2.45pm on a weekday and so get there before 2.00pm to save having to wait.

Enter La Zubia and go up through the town past the church and through the traffic lights until you reach a mini roundabout near Mercado Dani (on the left). Drive past the supermarket and bear left through the car park area and take the last exit, turning left down Calle Nogal. Turn right down Calle Valencia which runs along the side of Cafeteria Patio. Patio Andaluz is facing you at the end of the road.

If you want more choice in deciding where to eat, we have listed some of our other favourite restaurants in Granada at menu del dia.

There are many excellent Granada restaurants, able to cater for any pocket from economy to expensive. But you don't have to pay a lot in order to get delicious food. It is just a matter of knowing their locations and making your choice, because you need to know where these restaurants are in order to try them.

If you have any other favourite Granada restaurants let us know about them so we can include them in our listings. Enjoy!
