During Corpus Christi in Granada 2010 You Can Enjoy the Best Of Everything Spanish
"All the fun of the fair in Granada 2010." The Corpus Christi in Granada fiesta is one of the best celebrated fiestas all over Spain.
Granada really "goes to town" to make her week-long celebrations a big attraction and it's not unheard of for people to come from the north of Spain, and even from countries the world over just to enjoy everything that is going on during this week.

Children of all ages are welcome
The feast itself is a Christian celebration and is Latin for the Body of Christ in honour of the Holy Eucharist. The celebrations last for eight long days and nights, although the actual day Corpus Christi in Granada falls is on the Thursday following Trinity Sunday (which is the eighth Sunday after Easter). This year, 2010, the celebrations will run from Monday 31st May to Sunday 6th June when the week-long festival is rounded off with a huge firework display.
On the Wednesday 2nd June the giant procession will go through the streets, featuring giants and monsters as well as "La Tarasca," a gaudily costumed female figure who rides on top of the Corpus Christi dragon.
The Tarascan is an important part of the procession as it symbolises the triumph of the beautiful over the ugly and monsterous... this is especially imnportant when you realise that the Spanish refer to someone as ugly if they are mean in spirit, and as being beautiful if they are kind and generous in themselves. The whole thing is fun and is certainly not to be missed.
On the Thursday, the Eucharist Procession takes place. This shows the monstrance, which displays the holy host (the body of Christ), being carried from the Cathedral in the heart of the city on a flower-filled carriage through the streets of Granada. Spectators throw flowers and herbs as the procession passes them.
All The Fun Of The Fair
A huge fairground in Almanájar, near Granada bus station, attracts fun and frivolity each night.
Locals dress in their best Spanish clothes and the Andalucian horses show off their best steps.
Wine, beer, coffee and soft drinks flow freely. Churros and sunflower seeds are eaten by the kilo. Where else would anyone want to be as the streets throng with fun-loving people right through to the early morning hours.
Corpus Christi Granada is a fiesta that encapsulates the fun and joy of life that so typifies the Spanish people.
Bullfights
Out of the whole of Andalucia this is the week where the most and the best bull fights take place in Granada.
Granada's famous bull ring, built in 1880, attracts the country's best bull-fighters. This year, David Fandila "The Fandi" shows his skills along with José Tomás, El Juli and Morante.
The atmosphere of the spectators is good natured and the various restaurants, bars and cafés around the bull-ring itself ensures that there are always plenty of refreshments available.
