How To Build A Website
Of Your Own

By Using One Of These Foolproof, Straight-forward Methods

I built my first website after I came to live in Spain.

To tell you the truth, I had made a few attempts to get my own site beforehand. But they all failed because I just didn't know how to go about it.

But since then I have built five different websites.

The topics of the sites are about my two favourite subjects:-

• Granada, and
• Better Health

The First Way To Build A Website

Method One

The first site I built was with a company called Site Build It (Also known as SBI).

It was super easy because they did all of the coding that was needed.

All I had to do was to decide what I wanted to say, and which photographs I wanted to include, and their system did all of the hard work for me.

I was up and running very quickly. And this site - the one you are reading now - was the result... check it out by clicking on Bed and Breakfast Granada.com.

You will find almost 200 pages of information about Granada, Padul, Andalucia and the Sierra Nevada mountains.

But that is only the beginning because I have also written about tapas, flamenco, shopping and a whole host of other things.

Of course, some people build websites of just a couple of pages because that suits their purposes.

And your website can be exactly how you want it to be.

And that is its beauty!

The Second Way To Build A Website

Well, maybe it is even easier!

I used a system called "Wordpress".

Again a Wordpress website can be as large or as small as you want it to be.

The main difference is that a Wordpress site can also be a "Blog".

A blog is a a word to describe a "WEB LOG" - similar to a sort of diary where you can write pages about the things you are interested in..... and if you want to, you can allow the people who read what you have put to leave comments about what you have written.

If you clicked on the link and had a look at my Massage and Mind website you would have seen that it looks different to this site.

The thing that makes a website looks the way it looks is often called a "theme". And the way a site's theme looks is just a personal choice.

There are lots of free themes to choose from. In fact the last time I checked, there were 1,468 of them, - all free to use. To see just a few of them click on Wordpress Themes

You can easily get spoiled for choice (and did I tell you that SBI has lots of themes to choose from as well?)

Wordpress sites are operated differently than SBI sites

The hosting company I use is called Bluehost.com and they look after the websites to make sure they work properly and are always "connected" to the internet.

There is a small monthly fee to pay (it works out at less than a third of the SBI price) and you also buy the name of your website.

The price for a website (domain) name varies, but I paid about eight euros for mine. That is a one off charge, plus a small fee of a couple of euros each year to continue its registration.

And I can almost have as many websites as I want on my Bluehost.com site.

As you can see, it is a lot cheaper to get a wordpress site, but there are advantages in both SBI and Wordpress. It just depends upon what you want.

And there are plenty. You can start at site in a few minutes with Wordpress.com (The wordpress site I mentioned earlier is a Wordpress.org site which is totally different). And there are also Blogger.com, Squidoo.com free sites plus many more. While these free sites are excellent for many people there are three main problems with using them:-

1. They do not have as many features as the paid sites. You may find that you spend a long time building a free site only to find that it will not allow you to do what you want to do.
Having said that, some sites such as the Wordpress.com will allow you to pay for an upgrade to give you more features, but then you are still limited in what you can do and the upgrade fees can eventually cost more than a paid site would have cost in the first place!

2. You cannot optimise the fee sites as you can a paid site. That means that if you want people to find your site through the search engines you will find it extremely difficult to get to that level. The free sites do not have the same facilities for optimising in that way.

3. Because the site is free, you could easily find that - for whatever reason - your site has been deleted. I know of people who this has happened to and they have been heartbroken. You have no rights over a free site at all.

• An automatic back-up plugin for your site.

Doing the above will give you a ready-made website that is all ready for you to complete your About Me details, Create your categories and start to write your content.

Once you have decided, the first thing to do is to Clear your Cookies.

After clearing cookies, to go ahead with the Free Wordpress and pay for Hosting option, click on the BlueHost logo picture below and follow the instructions ....

When you have processed your order you will receive a confirmation email. Forward it to me, deleting your order number first, for security reasons.

Wordpress can be used as a static site and a blog - or you can have both combined on the same site.
