Open up the book fair of Granada and have a good read

Hurrah! I love the book fair in Granada. And it comes here each and every year. Yippee!

Whenever anyone asks me what I miss most about England the answer is always the same - browsing through a good bookshop.

Yes, there are bookshops here in Spain, but the choice of stock tends to be fairly limited. However each and every April everything is different because the book fair of Granada is here. And I can feel it tempting me.

Granada book fair crowds

Extending along the Paseo del Salon and into Puerta Real in the centre of Granada city there are around thirty book stalls specialising in one subject or other. Yes, most of the books are in Spanish, but just handling them and flipping the pages gives me a thrill. And it is often surprisingly easy to read spanish as opposed to listening to it.

But the feria de libro del Granada isn't just about reading and looking at books.

During the ten days of the fair you can enjoy meeting notable authors who will be available to share their knowledge. And there is also a choice of poetry readings, book signings and lots of lectures.

Various events are held at different venues around Granada including The Alhambra, Salon Caja Granada, and the Corral del Carbón and so there is plenty of variety to interest any book fan.

A selection of events and lectures typically include
  • Tales of the Alhambra
  • The lives of the Moors and the Christians
  • The corners of Granada
  • A musical journey in 20th century music
  • The mountains of the moon
  • The invisible sea
  • Washington Irving
Whatever your interest there is bound to be plenty to interest you....

stall at the Granada book fair

I guess that looking at a collection of books (especially those written in Spanish) may not be to everybody's cup of tea, but the atmosphere at the book fair in Granada always presents an interesting opportunity to see a different aspect of the granadinos. The opening hours are 11.00am until 2.30pm and then from 5.30pm to 10.00pm.

Maybe I will see you at the next one?
