The exhibition of Rodin in Granada - it's one of the first, it's free and it's here

Want to see the works of Rodin in Granada?

Now is your chance. Auguste Rodin's famous sculpture The Thinker will be on display from 5 February 2008 along with the six original ‘Burghers of Calais’ statues.

Rodin in Granada - The Thinker

This is the first time that the works of Rodin have been exhibited in this way in Spain.

Malaga hosted the first leg of the exhibition until the 19th December 2007 and then the sculptures were carefully packed and securely transported to set up the Rodin in Granada exhibition.

The famous sculpture "The Thinker" (Le Penseur) was commissioned by the Parisian Museum of Decorative Arts. Depicting Dante pondering his poem "The Divine Comedy" in front of the Gates of Hell, the statue was first presented to the public in 1904. But it is here now, on loan from the Rodin Museum (Musée Rodin) in Paris.

Even though the statue has a famous familiarity with people throughout the world, it is only when you see it "in the flesh" that you really begin to feel its influence.

According to Rodin the sculptor...
“The Thinker has a story. In the days long gone by I conceived the idea of the Gates of Hell... This project was not realized. .. Dante in his straight robe would have been without meaning. Guided by my first inspiration I conceived another thinker, a naked man, seated on a rock, his fist against his teeth, he dreams. The fertile thought slowly elaborates itself within his brain. He is no longer a dreamer, he is a creator.”

The exhibition is available for viewing until the 18th March in Puerta Real - one of Granada's most famous and popular squares.

Yes, the exhibition in Granada of Rodin is under secure observation.

And, yes, it is free!
